Power BI dashboard development
Most dashboards do not fail on technology. They fail because the data model is wrong, because nobody agreed on the definitions, or because the user was never shown what to do with it. That is where I start.
What you get
- A data model that holds up. Star schema, unambiguous relationships, a dedicated date table. This is the part everything else breaks on later if it is wrong now.
- DAX measures that can be checked. Named, commented and traceable — no calculation whose filter context is a mystery a year from now.
- A report that reads like an answer. Not eleven charts on a page, but a structure that walks the reader through the question.
- Automated refresh. Configured in the Power BI service, with a gateway where the source sits on premises.
- Handover. A short user session plus model documentation, so your own people can take it further.
Sources I work with
Excel and CSV files, SQL Server and other relational databases, SharePoint lists, ERP and HR exports, and APIs where available. If your data sits in four systems that do not know about each other, that is not an exception — that is the normal starting position.
Frequently asked questions
Do we need Power BI Pro licences?
To share reports through the Power BI service, yes, per user. To view a report only on your own machine, the free Power BI Desktop is enough. For larger organisations a capacity licence can work out cheaper. I will work the numbers through with your user count before you buy anything.
How long before we see something?
A first working version on real data usually exists within two to three weeks. That is deliberately early and deliberately unfinished: feedback on a real draft is far more useful than feedback on a specification.
Can we maintain it ourselves afterwards?
That is the aim. You get model documentation and a handover session. If you want your team to build new reports as well, targeted Power BI training is the logical addition.
Do you work with Tableau, Qlik or Looker?
No. I work inside the Microsoft ecosystem: Power BI, Excel, Power Query, SQL. That is a deliberate limit — I would rather be good at one thing than adequate at four. If you are committed to another platform, I will refer you on.
